Mumbai, the metropolitan city of India, is one of the busiest cities in the world — it has a great market for food, as well, be it Chinese, Western, oriental or anything else. One of the most loved Chinese restaurants, Facing East, stirred up some heat recently.
In order to promote the restaurant, a poster of a rather big-bellied Bruce Lee was placed on the street, which is reported to have infuriated martial arts lovers throughout the city. Chitah Yajness Shetty, founder of the Chitah Jeet Kune-Do Federation, said that it was an “intentional awful act of the restaurant’s management”.
The poster created quite a stir with martial arts fans protesting on the street and putting ‘sorry’ posters on the restaurant’s logo. The poster features a famous picture of Bruce Lee sporting a paunch and chopsticks in his hand. The designer of the poster and the restaurant manager probably felt the idea was creative, but Lee fans felt otherwise.
Shetty has demanded a written apology and a compensation for the Bruce Lee foundation in the United States.
“Mr Obaid from Facing East has verbally assured to remove the objectionable signage after the protest,” said protestors, according to a press release.
