JAKARTA: Protests from conservative Muslim groups in Indonesia led to Miss World organisers scrapping the bikini competition from this year’s pageant, CBS News reported.
Indonesia will host the 2013 Miss World competition in Bali and Jakarta in September.
Local organizer Adjie S Soeratmadjie said on Thursday that contestants will sport conservative beach sarongs instead of the skimpy bikinis that have been a fixture in the competition.
Soeratmadjie added that the Miss World Organization has agreed to comply with the request out of respect for Indonesian customs.
