MUMBAI: For his new project Bollywood actor Imran Khan has taken inspiration from popular heroes of the ‘80s. Imran plays a gangster in forthcoming underworld drama Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara and followed Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor’s style for his role in the film.
“I wanted to model this character on the heroes of the ‘80s, especially the biggest ones during that time like Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor. They were the biggest style icons of that era,” the 30-year-old said while promoting his film Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara on a radio show.
“This boy [character] is from Dongri and obviously he will watch Hindi films and he will be inspired by his heroes. I have taken inspiration from Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor for styling, shoes, hairstyle and moustache,” he added.
Right looks for characters in period dramas are important.
“When you are making a period film, it is very important to convince the audience that the film has actually been set in a particular time period. Every single detail is very important, like how shirt collars were done and hair was styled,” said Imran.
“If there is one little thing that is out, they will get pulled out of the film. They will stop believing that it is a film set in 1980,” he added.
Directed by Milan Luthria, Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai Dobara also stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha and is a sequel to Balaji Motion Picutres’ 2010 hit Once Upon A Time in Mumbaai. The film is all set to release on August 15.
