To celebrate the relationship between France and Germany, the Goethe Institut and Alliance Francaise de Karachi have organised the European Cinema Weekend, due to take place this coming Saturday and Sunday.
According to a press release, six French and German films will be screened on November 23 at the Goethe Institute, and on November 24 at Alliance Francaise.
Three films will be screened each day, with the first show starting at Goethe at 2pm. The films to be screened at Goethe are ‘Das Wunder Von Bern’ by Sonke Wortmann, Ursula Meier’s ‘L’enfant d’en Haut’ and Marc Rothemund’s ‘Sophie Scholl-Die Letzten Tage’. The last film is a 2005 Oscar nominee in the category of Best Foreign Language Film.
The films to be screened at Alliance Francaise de Karachi on Sunday are ‘A Message in a Bottle’ by Thierry Binisti, ‘Das Leben Der Anderen’ by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck and Abbas Kiarostami’s ‘Certified Copy’.
The plot of the selected films all center around important social or political messages and are suitable for family viewing. This event will certainly be a treat for discerning cinema goers, as one hardly gets the opportunity to see critically acclaimed European films screened at the local cinema houses.
