The Paint Bucket opened its doors to the World Wide Web two years ago. Primarily an online art gallery promoting emerging artists, The Paint Bucket provides an alternative platform not only for artists, but also for buyers and clients to view the works of emerging artists.
After two years of dealing with clients on a one to one basis, The Paint Bucket has inaugurated its first physical show. ‘To Find The Properties of Imagination’ is a multi-artist group show featuring seven emerging artists along with the gallery’s permanent collection.
With time, the youth of Pakistan is slowly understanding the worth and value of art, and are more interested in acquiring pieces that they love. The beauty about appreciating art is that with time, one’s tastes mature, and the buyer really starts to understand about his/her own likes and dislikes. For a potential collector or enthusiast, it is also better to experiment with emerging artists to identify their taste.
“More and more galleries, collectors and platforms are keen to acquire contemporary art from Pakistan,” says Sehr Latif, Art Liason at The Paint Bucket, “keeping this in mind and seeing as there is hardly any opportunity for many young Pakistani artists to promote themselves on a virtual platform that is accessible to local as well as international audiences, I feel that The Paint Bucket can form that bridge.”
The exhibit features artists Sidra Asim, Ahsen Javiad, Susan Qadeer, Zahra Asim, Saad Ahmed, Ahsan Memon and Anum Lasharie. The gallery’s permanent collection includes M. Sulehri, Shamsuddin Tanwri, Saud Baloch, Zahra Asim, Shehrish Khan, Zarmina Aslam, Amna Kazmi and the newest sensation on the block, and one of the most talented self-taught artists from Islamabad, Usman Ahmed.
The show is a melting pot of creativity, with artists trying to find their voices. It is always interesting to see works by emerging artists, as they are struggling to find their niche and voice, their journey is exciting and intriguing at the same time.
“I love buying new pieces that excite me,” continues Latif, “it is about what is aesthetically pleasing to you. Most of my clients don’t even ask me who the painting is by before buying it, because to them it is more about the expression rather than the name.”
The inaugural show in essence serves at getting the people of Lahore better acquainted with the concept of the gallery, and what all it has to offer.
