Shakira has finally revealed the meaning behind the lyrics of her song Hips Don’t Lie, the 2006 anthem she performed with Wyclef Jean. The song was a massive hit, and will get one moving on the dancefloor even if played today, eight years later.
Her trick to knowing when a song is ready to ‘be taken out of the oven’ is the movement of her hips. Shakira, who has a son with football ace Gerard Piqué, asserted that when her body reacts physically to a song, she knows that it’s a dance song and that song is done.
The 37-year-old singer revealed this little quirk to Women’s Health magazine, saying that she used to tell her musicians, “My hips don’t lie! Are they moving? They’re not moving! So this is not ready,” adding that this is how she came up with the idea of the song.
Shakira kept the inspiration behind her hit a secret for so long but now we all know that her hips really don’t lie!
