KARACHI: Nida Azwer
Collection name: The Kothari Parade II
This collection comprises a range of voluminous outfits, which pay homage to the elaborate and grand silhouettes of the Mughal Court. With embellishments, resham, zardozi and gotta work, the line epitomises Nida Azwer’s signature design work. “For the collection, I have drawn inspiration from the subcontinent’s culture and history,” shares Azwer. ‘The Kothari Parade II Collection’ will consist of a mix of fabrics, ranging from fine silks to masuri, brocades and nets. It will see a wide palette of hues, featuring shades of red, rust, navy blue and turquoise, with accents of purple and grey.
Faraz Manan
Collection name: Istanbul
“I like Karachi’s aesthetics and love pastel colours. Since it is mostly hot here, the brides will really like this collection,” says Manan about his upcoming couture and fusion line. Manan’s ‘Istanbul Collection’ will largely see colours that are summery and would appeal to both the East and West. He has primarily worked around with kamdani and chikankari on netted fabrics.
Amir Adnan
Collection name: Mun Kunto Maula
“It’s bold, colourful and very refreshing. I think it should be received well,” says Amir Adnan. The designer has incorporated screen printing, tilla and gold metallic thread work in his upcoming men’s wear. The ‘Mun Kunto Maula Collection’ will be a pleasant break from the typical black and white sherwanis we have been seeing for years. Interestingly, it is similar to the kind of work Adnan started off with 20 years back.
Zaheer Abbas
Collection name: Jashan-e-Janna
The inspiration for the collection is derived from old movies on rajas and maharajas; it’s an assortment of several things, including Tansen’s era. “It’s a festive collection. It’s not about waiting for somebody to come, but the joy of somebody returning back to you,” adds Abbas. “It is a celebration of love, it’s a versatile palette, opening with a lot of colours, however, there is only one colour that is holding the opening together!” reveals Zaheer Abbas.
Zahid Khan for Kuki Concepts
Collection name: Bidai
The collection will feature a bright colour palette and not consist of the typical shades of red. The designer has brought back the feel of the 1930s by incorporating heavy gotta work in his collection. Khan reveals that the upcoming showcase will have a rather vintage and traditional feel to it and will be divided into two parts; one will follow the mehndi look while the other will feature the baraat look. “I don’t want my brides to follow fashion blindly, the colour needs to compliment their complexion; that’s primarily what matters,” says Zahid Khan.
HSY
Collection name: The Orchid Collection
“Synonymous with the name, the collection is inspired by the Radiant Bloom and creates a captivating harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, combined with intricate embroideries and fabric textures. This collection is set to intrigue the eye with its clever layering of separates and sparks the imagination with its use of colours, inspired by the beauty of nature,” says Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, giving an insightful analysis of his upcoming ‘Orchid Collection’.
Nomi Ansari
Collection name: Ishq
“I am doing something commercial; brides should look traditional and not be hesitant to wear my pieces,” says Nomi Ansari. In the upcoming ‘Ishq Collection’, he has played around with shades of red and traditional embellishments; there will be chatta-patti, gotta and maroori work. Ansari shares his thoughts with the brides of 2014: “Stay traditional, don’t go ahead with the messy hair look and keep tradition alive.”
Deepak Perwani
Collection name: Ottoman Odyssey
Deepak Perwani’s upcoming collection draws inspiration from Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and the subcontinent. “We will see heavy crystal work, kacha resham work and a lot of screen-printing. The colour palette is bright; it features red, orange, yellow and gold from the sun set,” reveals Perwani.
