Hollywood actor George Clooney wants to launch a career in politics. The 53-year-old actor, a noted political activist, is said to be planning the move after he weds fiancé Amal Alamuddin in September, 2014. He is reportedly gearing up to take part in the next US election.
“He has high ambitions and aims to get into politics imminently. He wants to do more humanitarian work and hopes to join the Democrats’ 2016 election campaign,” said a source, reported the Daily Mail.
The Oscar-winning producer and actor, who campaigned for President Barack Obama during the 2012 election and co-founded the humanitarian aid organisation titled, Not On Our Watch with several friends, including Matt Damon and Brad Pitt, believes Amal who is a lawyer, will help boost his chances of securing an official role in the next elections, reported the Times of India.
“George is thinking of how he can get more involved. Now that he has Amal by his side it will give him more credibility to run for office,” added the source.
Clooney is known for having numerous political contacts — and even counts President Barack Obama as a close friend.
The Monuments Men star previously didn’t show interest in politics. He was of the stance that while he felt very strongly about highlighting certain issues, such as the genocide in Darfur, he had no political aspirations. In February, he said: “I like the ability to shine light and make it loud. But boy, the idea of administrating and legislating. What a nightmare.”
