World-class footballer David Beckham will be presented with the first-ever Legend Award at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Sports 2014, in recognition of his outstanding talent and sportsmanship, reports People magazine.
The soccer star, 39, who was recently named Ambassador of United for Wildlife by Prince William, will receive the award for being a role model to young kids.
“He exemplifies the qualities every kid aspires to achieve and his name is the first that comes to mind when we think of his sport,” said a representative of the network in a statement.
Beckham started his career in football at the age of 17 in 1992. He started playing for Manchester United and went on to win six Premier League titles, the FA Cup twice and the UEFA Champions League in 1999. He played with the Real Madrid for four seasons and then signed a five-year contract with the Los Angeles Galaxy, where he won back-to-back MLS Cup Championships in 2011 and 2012. In 2013, he spent his last professional season with Paris Saint-Germain, where the club won its Lique 1 title. He was the first English player to win league titles in four countries, England, Spain, the United States and France.
Pharrell Williams, Florida Georgia Line, Marshawn Lynch, Kevin Durant, Will Arnett, Megan Fox and many other athletes and celebs are expected to attend the inaugural award show that will be aired on Nickelodeon on July 17.
