Actor Johnny Depp, who recently joined Aerosmith on stage, will soon feature in a new album, which comprises Bob Dylan’s lost lyrics. He will be playing the guitar in a song titled Kansas City on the album Lost On The River: The New Basement Tapes.
The news comes after Dylan handed over a collection of unused songs to producer T-Bone Burnett for him to bring to life, reported The Independent. Dylan’s unreleased lyrics were written during his 1967 stay at the Big Pink house, where he recorded 30 songs popularly known as ‘The Basement Tapes’. “These are not B-level Dylan lyrics, but works he just never got around to finishing,” said Burrnet.
Depp will feature along with Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons, Elvis Costello, Jim James of My Morning Jacket, Rhiannon Giddens of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes. The Pirates of the Caribbean star had been visiting Burnett in the Los Angeles studio when he was roped in as a last-minute contributor.
Depp is well-acquainted with the music world. In the past, he has joined The Black Keys, Marilyn Manson, Alice Cooper and Willie Nelson on stage. Last month, Depp made a cameo appearance in Paul McCartney’s music video for Early Days. The opportunity came along for the 51-year-old actor after Costello was unable to make a recording session due to a show.
