Renowned writer-lyricist Gulzar is soon to work his literary magic on the famous Bengali compositions of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, which he will translate in Hindi. Tagore has several notable compositions to his credit, including the Indian national anthem Jana Gana Mana. He was also the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize in Literature.
Chairman of Saregama India Ltd, Sanjiv Goenka, announced on Monday that they will be releasing a Hindi album with Gulzar’s rendition of Tagore’s famous songs, reported NDTV. Emphasising the need to translate Tagore’s works in Hindi, he said, “We are translating Tagore songs in Hindi to take it to a larger audience.”
The translations, which will be an audio-video journey, will feature Gulzar’s narrations and music virtuosos Shantanu Moitra, Shaan and Shreya Ghosal will offer their musical renditions to them. “We are also preparing an encyclopaedia of all of Tagore’s songs. More than 2,000 songs by the bard will be compiled into 10 CDs,” Goenka shared at the launch of a Bengali music album.
