Jeans are a closet staple that many opt for on a casual day out. But what most people don’t realise is that jeans are a versatile piece of clothing and are not restricted to being casual wear.
Although jeans can never go out of style, you can always wear them differently to keep your look fresh. You should also know what pair will stay in vogue and which one it’s time to dispose. As compiled from the Men’s Health magazine, here’s how you can look dynamic in denim.
Be careful where you rip
Distressed jeans have been trending across the globe, but if they’re ripped in the wrong places, it’s best that you rip them apart. “If the damage is on areas that distress naturally, such as knees and back pockets, you’re in the clear. But if it’s in odd places, for instance, the shins or thighs, it’ll look fake,” said Francine Rabinovich, founder of Denim Therapy, a denim repair shop in New York City.
Pair tops with jeans wisely
If the top is too long, it will conceal how great a fit your jeans are. A shirt paired with jeans should fall around the top or middle of your back pocket, suggested Durand Guion, VP, and men’s fashion director at Macy’s. While buying a shirt for yourself, decide if you will be tucking it in or not. If yes, leave it long and if not, get it altered.
Dress up your jeans
Denim deserves a trip to the tailor for you to get the perfect fitting, said Greg Sato, a Los Angeles designer and marketing manager at Levi’s. “Jeans can be dressed up,” he shared. Make sure to give them a wash before sending them to the tailor for alteration as their cotton fabric could possibly shrink.
White is right
Be daring and embrace the beauty of white jeans. “White isn’t slimming, so the jeans should be a little snug,” recommended Guion. White denim jeans coupled with a light blue denim chambray top and beige suede pumps would look dapper. If you’re hesitant to try bright white jeans, white sand-coloured jeans would be a good start.
Cuff your jeans
Most people find it challenging to fight a pair of jeans that ticks all the boxes. While some may fit perfectly around the waist, their length may be a downer. Roll the jeans up to achieve a look that is both trendy and will save you the hassle of getting their length altered.
