LOS ANGELES: Singer Taylor Swift, who has been riding high on recent successes, said her music would be ‘more beige’ if she hadn’t suffered from ‘humiliation’ in her life. Known for writing songs about her famous link-ups, which include Harry Styles, John Mayer and Jake Gyllenhaal, Swift feels she wouldn’t have won as many awards or sold out gigs if she hadn’t written about her personal heartbreaks.

“The songs I’ve written about my moments of humiliation, embarrassment or devastation have gotten me the greatest sense of clarity,” she said. “If my life had been turbulence-free, no bumps in the road at all, maybe my music would be more beige and maybe the stadiums wouldn’t be so full,” she added.

She shares that she doesn’t trust anyone who claims they haven’t regretted anything in life. “I can’t stand having regrets, but you’re supposed to have them. Anybody who tells you they went through life without regret or error isn’t telling you the truth and they shouldn’t be trusted,” she commented.

Swift credits her life’s biggest mistakes with having led to her greatest career triumphs. Although she has had some failed relationships, she has made good friends with a few Hollywood personalities, such as Selena Gomez and Sarah Hyland, who have also had an influence on her fashion sense. “When I’m getting dressed, it’s always based on what my friends will think. They are my number one priority and the opinion of girls is more important to me at this point in my life,” she shared.

“A lot of ‘celebrities’ surround themselves with chic cling-ons, who don’t really have much of a job or passion. They follow around their celebrity BFF and provide constant affirmation for them. I’m really not interested in that kind of deal,” she stated.

The Love Story singer has won seven Grammy Awards, 15 American Music Awards (AMAs), 12 Billboard Music Awards, 11 Country Music Association Awards and seven Academy of Country Music Awards. She was the first-ever recipient of the Dick Clark for Excellence at the 2014 AMAs.
