Fawad Khan is all set to reprise the role of royalty in his next Bollywood venture being directed by Shashanka Ghosh, reported the Times Of India.

Khan would be seen essaying a similar role to his previous Bollywood flick Khoobsurat in the upcoming production, which is an adaptation of Anuja Chauhan’s book Battle for Bittora.

The actor, who rose to fame with his performance in Humsafar, has an added feather in his cap, having done movies on both sides of the border. His Pakistani film debut came about with the 2007 movie Khuda Kay Liye. He later appeared in several well-liked Pakistani television serials, such as Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzaar Hai, Akbari Asghari and telefilm, Armaan.

According to the Mirror, the adaptation was initially offered to Abhinay Deo but that did not materialise. It was then offered to Shashanka Ghosh, who is currently in the process of scripting the film. The director is designing the script with the Khoobsurat duo of Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan in mind. In addition, the production team involved in the film has already spoken to a studio with the intention of placing the film on floors early next year.

Prior to Khoobsurat, Shashanka Ghosh has been involved in some very off-beat cinematic ventures such as the 2009 Indian comedy titled Quick Gun Murugun. Apart from that, he has also directed the movies Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II whilst also serving as the director of the short film 10 minutes, which was part of the anthology film Mumbai Cutting.

Times Of India reported that Khan would be seen taking on the character of Zain Altaf Khan, who is the scion of the North Indian royal family, renowned for his good looks and ambitious intentions in pursuing a political career.

Regarding the current status of the project, Shashanka said, “We’re currently working on the screenplay and should start the film next year.”

He further added that the film will remain very true to the book it is being adapted from, stating, “The source material is pretty great in itself so we are retaining most portions of it. The film will be set in the northern hinterland and will illustrate an interesting conflict between two very different characters.”

Refusing to divulge any further information about the project, the director concluded, “Fawad Khan has a two-film contract with Rhea Kapoor.” And with the Khoobsurat director all but certain to helm the project, it is likely that the team behind this project will be the same as Khoobsurat.
