KARACHI: From crop tops to monochromes, the beauty trends that shaped 2014 may have originated on the runways, but it was trendy celebs who took them for a street-ready spin.
We saw stars being more experimental with tailoring and hues, while also pulling out all the stops in conventional yet adventurous trends. With the New Year ahead, we’ve already started shifting our sights toward the future, but first, here’s one last glance back at the beauty highlights of the last 12 months.
Jumpsuits
This sultry one-piece wonder quickly became the go-to look with its hourglass forming, waist-cinching qualities. Stars made the sizzling style their own, whether casual while running errands or dressing them up for the red carpet. Jumpsuits definitely deserve the multi-faceted award this year.
Selena Gomez
Crop Tops
Holy abs! The half-shirt was a stylish route for sultry stars to showcase their figures, no matter their body type. The trend, paired with sleek trousers or high-waisted skirts, works magic on long and lean shapes as well as curvy, and full-figured bodies. This is absolutely one style we’d like to see trending in 2015.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Denim on Denim
Sure, all-black and all-white have a stronghold on the carpet, but no trend ruled the streets more than fierce all-denim ensembles. The most omnipresent of denim-on denim garb was the button-down and jeans combo that swept us off our feet. It adds an urban vibe to an otherwise boring and conventional look. Definitely, our go-to-look for the year.
Miranda Kerr
Black-and-White
No shades of gray here. Monochrome was major in 2014. Nothing like looking crisp and cool in contrasting colours. This edgy trend dominated red-carpets with a copious number of stars donning this distinctive look. While the black-and-white trend isn’t new in tinseltown, stars did the look justice this year by experimenting with dress prints, silhouettes and fabrics.
Cara Delevingne
Iridescent Gowns
There’s more than one way to glimmer on the red carpet, but our mode of preference is probably the iridescent gown, which, not-so-oddly enough, has the capability to make vivacious divas look more lustrous than they could in any matte colour. Talk about looking dewy from head to toe!
Angelina Jolie
Peek-a-Boo Cutouts
Whether a keyhole cutout or provocative side slit, Hollywood’s leaders in chic took precautions to show just the right amount of skin on the red carpet. The cutout design adds an urban feel to outfits without compromising on sophistication. Sure they do have an art of leaving spectators wanting more.
