Aamir Khan’s PK opened to a half-hearted response, cashing in about INR260 million on its opening day. While most Aamir critics thought his star power was overhauled by contemporaries Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan, PK’s bumper box office run has dodged everyone, reported dnaindia.com.

Amid a bunch of controversy, the movie has worked exceptionally well at the box-office, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time in the domestic market. According to IANS, the movie has collected INR2.63 billion in just 13 days, thus beating films like Dhoom 3 (INR2.61 billion), Kick (INR2.12 billion), Chennai Express (INR2.08 billion) and 3 Idiots (INR2.01 billion).

Looking at the movie’s pace at the box office, trade analysts are expecting the film to cross the INR3 billion mark in India. The film is going very strong at collection centres at worldwide box office and if it continues to run in this pace, it will earn INR3 billion by the fourth week, reported ibtimes.co.in

The film has also beaten the lifetime collections of Ajay Devgn starrer Singham Returns which made a lifetime collection of INR1.41 billion at the domestic box office, reported koimoi.com.

“I definitely think the numbers are as per expectations and we are looking at a movie which is going to surpass INR3 billion. So, I think its performance is at par at what the expectations were and I think it might succeed the expectations of fans and the film team alike. The movie is going to break all records,” commented Tarun Tandon, M D of Indra Films.

PK has been in the news bulletins lately, due to the film’s ‘controversial’ message that offended certain religious groups. Hindu religious groups in Agra continued their protest against the movie and activists of different Hindu sects held demonstrations in several places, burnt posters of the film and shouted slogans. Director Rajkumar Hirani clarified in a statement that PK wasn’t meant to insult any religious belief and was aimed at rekindling a sense of brotherhood, reported IANS.

With another hit under his belt, Aamir Khan truly rules the roost at the box-office.
