LAHORE: Shahid Nazir, who gained fame for singing the ‘One Pound Fish’ song at his fish stall in London, has joined the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N), reported Express News on Friday.

Nazir met PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif and former Punjab chief minister Shahbaz Sharif in Raiwind where he announced joining the party.

On his official twitter account, Nazir said that he has joined politics for the poor people of the country and for the poor state of education.

He also tweeted saying that it was his father who convinced him to join the PML-N, while his mother, daughters and sisters support Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan.

Nazir had moved to Britain around two years ago with the hope of making enough money to send to his wife and four children in Pakistan.

On his first day at the fish stall, his boss told him to shout to customers to get their attention. He said he did not like shouting, and so made up a song which he called “One Pound Fish”.

Nazir last year signed a record deal with Warner Music after he was spotted in a YouTube video of him singing at the Queen’s Market, Upton Park, which got more than 3.6 million views.
