KARACHI: This year’s FPW Fall/Winter will feature Maheen’s new label ‘To Karachi with love.’ Seems like the designer is raring to rule the fashion crown.
Elaborating on her new label, she says “It is a celebration of everything we love about the city of lights. The 60s and 70s with the trendy cafes, shops, cinemas to the nightclubs and discotheques, where the sophisticated set arrived like beautiful swans out for an evening swim and onwards to today.”
She is fast to add that the novice collection is designed for the women of today, “To that one woman in a crowded room who stands out, her body language like no other… But who is she? She is the wind, sometimes blowing in from the East, sometimes from the West. She is the woman I’m dressing [up], very much centered in the 21st Century.”
In regards to what she’ll be showcasing on the ramp this year, she listed, “There will be coats, and capes that have been borrowed from the West to complete the sari, the gharara, or the shalwar kameez. Embroidery will be kept to a minimal but the ensembles [will] ooze glamour.”
She further added that the collection is inspired by the uber-sophisticated women of Karachi in the 60s and 70s. They were rooted in the East but were modern in their interpretation of Eastern styles. The Grand Finale of Fashion Pakistan Week — Autumn Winter 2014 to be held in Karachi on November 27.
